There isn’t a day that goes by when we don’t think of Jacob. In the beginning, getting out of bed took everything we had. After a while, his dad, Lance, started a group text, sending a simple “good morning” every day. It gave us a reason to keep moving forward—and reminded us we weren’t alone.
We also knew we didn’t want anyone else to go through this, if we could help it. One day, Lance texted an idea about starting a foundation to help others, and that message became the beginning of what we are doing today.
Through the Jacob Draper Memorial Foundation, we award at least one scholarship each year to a graduating senior at C.F. Brewer High School—Jacob’s alma mater, along with much of our family’s—and we donate to suicide awareness and prevention organizations.

Jacob was 26 years old when he took his own life, leaving behind a three-year-old son and a stunned family and community asking why. No one knew—or if they did, they didn’t say—that Jacob had ever struggled with suicidal thoughts.
There was no note.
Nothing on his phone.
There were no answers.

The Jacob Draper Memorial Fund was created to help us reach others like Jacob. He didn’t say anything to anyone, and we don’t want that silence to happen again. Our hope is that someone who is struggling will stumble across this website or our Facebook page, see the suicide hotline or the LOSS Team button, and reach out.
Anything.
To anyone.
Because no one can help you if they don’t know.
Your contributions help us meet our goals.
